Henry VII and Anne Boleyn, illustration by James E. McConnell

Although 1 June marks the anniversary of when Anne Boleyn was crowned Queen of England, she had become the second wife of King Henry VIII in January 1533. After months of argument over the legality of the marriage it was declared to be valid by the Archbishop of Canterbury, which led to a break up between the Church of England and the Catholic Church.

Anne’s reign as Queen did not last long as Henry began courting Jane Seymour in 1536 and Anne was accused of treason and beheaded.
