This superb picture shows the Greek orator and Athenian statesman Pericles, who was responsible for the construction of the Parthenon among many other notable achievements. His political skills and subtle intelligence enabled him to control the city state from 445 to 431 BC, and ushered in the so-called Age of Pericles, perhaps the high watermark of the Golden Age in Greece.
